Talk:Ship

From Fleet

There have been some speculations about current mass ( the weight of your ship ) has an effect on how much you get hit. I have done some testing in an Atlas fighting one and the same Vorpal Fang. At first, I filled my ship with commodities like nebula gas and hydrogen gas to max capacity of 1750t and fought a Vorpal Fang for a total of 400 rounds. Then I did the same, but with an emptied Atlas ( actual weight was around 360t ). Here are the results. Full Atlas got hit 749 times with guns out of 2800 fired shots (26,75%) and 292 times with turrets out of 800 fired shots (36,5%). Together the hit rate was around 28,916%. Empty Atlas got hit 700 times with guns out of 2800 fired shots (25%) and 323 times with turrets out of 800 fired shots (40,375%). Together the hit rate was 28,416%.

Everyone can reach his own conclusion, but as the difference in ship mass was huge ( empty ship weighted only 20% of the filled up one ), it leads me to believe effective mass has a very little if any effect on how your ship behaves in combat.

After the latest patch today evening, the above no longer applies. New results are being compiled and will be posted soon.

Here are the new and more accurate test results. Ship used was Atlas as before. This time I fought for 3600 rounds with each setup. I fought the vorpal fang with an empty ship first, then I filled it up and did the rest of the attacks

Empty Atlas got hit 2194 times with guns out of 12600 shots fired (17,41%) and 752 times with turrets out of 3600 shots fired (20,89%). Together the hit rate was 18,19%. Full Atlas got hit 2311 times with guns out of 12600 shots fired (18,34%) and 822 times with turrets out of 3600 shots fired (22,83%). Together the hit rate was 19,34%.

The full Atlas got hit 5,33% more with guns and 9,31% more with turrets than the empty one, even though my skills were increasing during the test. In average, during the full ship test my agility was around 1,5 points higher than during the test with the empty ship.

Conclusion: Effective mass of your ship does play a role in combat. In general, the heavier your ship is, the more you will get hit. The importance of this feature in PvP is questionable ( the difference is not that huge ), but it can be used for faster Engineering skilling.

The table does not sort the Ship Space properly. I'm guessing that the m3 turns the field into a text field, so it is sorting alphabetically, instead of numerically. This causes 1100 to be "smaller" than 200, since it starts with 1, instead of 2.

    • Fixed by removing the m3 from the individual records, and putting it into the header row. Also added units to Mass and Cost to maintain consistency.

What happens when you abandon your ship?--Lightning 22:11, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

A confirmation screen about scrapping my ship (I thought I was abandoning it?), including little hover over tooltip/infobox things which show equipment, location, cargo. I'll test it out later.--Lightning 22:15, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
It... just disappears. No money. Nothing. Just gone.--Lightning 16:08, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

I guess it's serious about the whole abandoning thing... :P --Space Weasel 20:32, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
