When you self-destruct via the Remove Building interface element, the contents of the building will likewise be lost.
However, if you were to blow up someone else's building, the contents of the building will be deployed to a container.
In either case, the building itself will leave no debris.

Military Blockade
Description
Military Blockades are capable of controlling passage access to those who try to pass over them when fully upkept. They can, however, only be built on tiles which don't have a permanent body present (e.g. a star, planet, politician) and there may be distance requirements from wormholes etc (elaboration required). Currently, MBs can't be built in sectors to the right and inclusive of Gecko (local group)?

Special Buildings
Special buildings can not be built by players. They are by and large found throughout the universe and have a wide range of functions.
Jump Gate
Jump Gates are the connection points between various sectors. Gates pictured like the one above have a single possible destination.
Gates pictured like the one above have a multiple possible destinations. By clicking on the gate, or it's name in the object list, you can view the destinations and jump to a destination of your choosing.
Some gates have no destinations and are inactive. These gates may still be a destination for a different gate however.
Gates pictured like the one above are special. They may have passage restrictions or a time-lock which otherwise makes them different from other gates.
The base AP Cost to jump though a gate is 500 AP. This cost is lowered by 1 AP for each 0.5 Agility score you earn until you reach the minimum jump AP cost of 50 AP.
Faction Administration Building (FAB)
Faction administration buildings are pretty special. Essentially, they're buildings built on planets that claim that planet for a particular faction. For a look over how they work and what factions do with them, see here.
Oracle

In a sentence, the Oracle is a special, stationary building that allows players to trade in 100 influence for information on how they rank in the universe on a particular skill (e.g. Tactics, engineering etc) - the skill in question changes every day. It is cloaked in the same way that player cloaking works - it can only be seen once you're on top of it... Quite how it does this has been a subject for debate for many decades. Pilots who know its location have distractedly mentioned large orange footwear and a hooded figure wearing a sombrero before hurredly changing the subject (usually to their favourite soup... We're not sure why this is). It would be a kind, loving gesture to let you know where such a pleasant, mysterious building lies - a building which conjures thoughts of croutons floating in flavoured water... But we're not going to. It's much more exciting to find it yourself :D.
Author's Hideout
Found only on the fabled 'map editting universe,' the author's hideout acts as a gate to sectors uncharted as of yet... We consulted the Porkian scriptures for the only written account of what is seen as one passes through the fire:

Knights Guild
The Knights Guild offers access to the Knight class.
Location : Centic [-57,4]
Building message: "Welcome to the Knights Guild
We are a loosely affiliated group of like minded individuals who share a common belief in ridding the universe of the horrible critters that infest it. We offer membership only to those explorers who we feel are experienced enough to merit membership in our organization, for a very nominal fee. Our members enjoy the thrill of our occasional tournament, access to trade with this facility for supplies, and an all you can eat Sunday buffet brunch.
Our code of conduct allows our members the freedom to do as they please."

The Oniwaban (AKA Iga Sushi Palace) is the finest culinary venue in the universe. Fresh Cephalapod is brought in daily from the Butterfly cluster and prepared by sushi master Oniwaban the Sushi Ninja (who lives in the strange trees). Itadakimasu!
